Linux kernel and initramfs are loaded into RAM on the M6
Joshua Warren said his M6 Linux update installed a bootloader and got the USB debug console working, and that the Linux kernel and initramfs are loaded into RAM.
He said it runs the second-stage loader. He said next is the U-Boot handoff and a Linux shell, then HDMI and an Omarchy desktop, followed by ANE and the GPU.
In a reply he said he is currently on step 1, getting the Linux kernel running on a Mac Mini M6, and is starting step 2, installing Omarchy and Omarchy-MLX.
He said the machine has 32GB. He said he is going to bring up the new Neural Engine on it, and then see what it can do with open source AI under Linux.
Asked about Linux for an M5 Max, he said it is not there yet and the team is working on it. He said, “Soon!”
He said Dj and others on the AuroraSilicon and OmarchyMac teams have Omarchy running on the MacBook Neo, and that the upcoming Omarchy M release should have support for the Neo.
