Desktop camera access for ThinkPad T14s model prefixes 21N1 and 21N2 is in quattro
Pull request 15331, merged into quattro, carries desktop camera access for Snapdragon ThinkPad T14s model prefixes 21N1 and 21N2. Bob Prendergast wrote that no clean stock installation was tested. The merge is not in version 4.0.4.
The pull request says a working OV02C10 kernel and device tree on the Snapdragon ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 also needs the libcamera PipeWire backend and access to the system DMA heap for software image processing. The setup installs pipewire-libcamera only on Qualcomm machines with Lenovo model prefixes 21N1 and 21N2. A udev rule grants the active local session access to /dev/dma_heap/system, and logging out and back in loads the new PipeWire backend without interrupting an active media session during migration.
Prendergast wrote that validation on Oct. 13 used a physical T14s, model 21N10000US, kernel 7.2.10-1-aarch64-ARCH, libcamera 0.7.2-4, and the PipeWire libcamera backend 1:1.6.9-1. He wrote that a normal user captured 30 frames at 1920×1080, about 30 fps, and that the owner confirmed a good live preview and readable, non-mirrored text. He also wrote that these hardware results validate the existing equivalent package and access configuration, and that the new installer and migration passed fixture tests and were not rerun on the hardware.
He wrote that the tested machine keeps a camera-enabled device tree this pull request does not supply, and that upstream kernel and device-tree integration is still separate work. He wrote that browser and conferencing integration, suspend and resume, and calibrated image tuning remain untested.
