DGX Spark boot entries skip the unified kernel image in an n1x merge
Pull request 13426 merges a boot setting that starts a DGX Spark from the kernel and the early boot image, skipping a unified kernel image. The merge is on n1x, not in version 4.0.4.
Jim Martin wrote that on the DGX Spark the screen stays black for about 20 seconds after a boot entry is picked in Limine. He wrote that the firmware clears memory as it is freed, and that Limine returns about 124 GB before it starts a unified image. He wrote that a timed build spent 20.15 seconds in that step. Starting the kernel and the early image directly skips it.
The merged drop-in sets ENABLE_UKI=no on a machine whose product name is NVIDIA_DGX_Spark, and a migration rebuilds that machine's boot entries once. Other machines, including a GX10, stay as they are. A Spark already using direct boot keeps its unified image, because a rebuild would delete the file the firmware entry loads. With the drop-in in place, Setup, then Direct Boot, is hidden.
Martin wrote that the migration on a Spark cut Limine's time, including a 5-second menu, from 26.3 seconds to 6.3 seconds. He wrote that the drop-in should be removed once Limine is fixed. birkskyum merged the pull request into n1x.
