Background switch keeps the still until the video fades in
A switch from a still background to a video had shown an old frame or an empty background for 100 to 400 ms. A change merged into quattro keeps the still on screen until the fade starts from that still.
A switch from a still background to a video showed an old frame of the previous video, or an empty background, for 100 to 400 ms. A change merged into quattro keeps the still on screen when the next background is a video, until OWE suspends the layer after the video's first frame and the fade starts from that still.
Bjarne Øverli recorded the switch at 60 fps with OWE. With a warm renderer the still holds until 120 ms, and the fade is done by 395 ms. With no renderer running the still holds until 255 ms, and the fade is done by 545 ms.

Before that, the warm renderer showed an old video frame at 0 ms, and no renderer showed 400 ms of black. A switch from a video to a still uses the snapshot cover, as before. With no renderer running, 1 or 2 dark frames can show when the new renderer commits its first buffer. A cold switch from a settled still shows them too.
