Update indicator clears without a second check
pull request 15047, merged into quattro, clears the update indicator after a successful update instead of checking availability again. The merge is not in version 4.0.4.
After a successful update, the merged script tells the bar to clear the update indicator, instead of running the availability check again. By then the development checkout has already been updated and the system packages have been upgraded, so the indicator has nothing left to show. The second check fetched that checkout again, up to a 10s timeout, and synced every repository database.
David Heinemeier Hansson said that database sync is about 0.4s when nothing changed, and a few seconds just after a sync, roughly 1–5s saved per update, more on a slow network. The old status command remains a hidden helper that only clears the indicator, so an update already in progress can still finish its restarts and hooks. David Heinemeier Hansson opened and merged the change.
