Opaque, transparent, and glassy are the merged window looks
Pull request 14991 merges three window looks under Appearance: opaque, transparent, and glassy, a frosted look for every theme. The merge is not in version 4.0.4.
The command omarchy-hyprland-window-transparency switches among them. Opaque and glassy are files loaded after the theme. Transparent, the default, removes those files. The pull request says the transparent choice keeps opacity at 0.985 for an active window and 0.96 for an inactive one. A virtual-machine install starts opaque. The merged change does not use the animations switch to force windows solid.
Glassy blurs what is behind a window and sets a terminal's own background opacity to 0.65, so the text stays crisp. A rule that fades the whole window would fade the text too. The terminal foot asks for no blur unless its own blur setting is on, so the merged templates turn that on.
David Heinemeier Hansson wrote that he checked Alacritty 0.17.0, foot 1.28.0, Ghostty 1.3.1, and Kitty 0.49.2, by switching a running terminal and by opening a new one. He wrote that Nautilus was blurred glass at 0.75. A terminal opened before the change keeps its launch settings until it is opened again.
The same pull request sets the bar background to opaque, glassy, or clear under Appearance, then Menu Bar. A double-click cycles those three. The glassy bar draws the theme background at an opacity of 0.35, or lower when the theme already is. Pull request 15022 lets Herdr's tab bar use the terminal background, and pull request 15024 does the same for Neovim's current line and status line. A changed file and a linked config are left alone.
