Thunderbolt checks, in this merge, wait longer on a machine with no controller
Pull request 14931 merges a slower Thunderbolt check while a machine has no Thunderbolt controller. maralcbr wrote that idle process launches fell from 1,587 a minute to 334. The merge is not in version 4.0.4.
Both checks still tick every two seconds. While the last snapshot is idle, the root service skips the full reconcile for up to 10 seconds, and the user service skips its scan for up to 20 seconds. A controller, a policy change, a device, or a failed reconcile brings the full check back on the next tick. With no controller, a Bolt restart is picked up within 10 seconds rather than two seconds.
maralcbr wrote that the count came from a MacBook Pro M2 Max running quattro, with protection on and no Thunderbolt controller visible to Linux. Tracing for 60 seconds showed the two services launching 1,587 processes a minute before the change and 334 after, which maralcbr described as 79 percent fewer. ryanrhughes merged the pull request.
